Donald Jaylen Scott Jr., a senior from Blythewood, South Carolina, was a very involved brother in the Psi Kappa chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. According to his friends, he was a young guy who put a lot of effort into everything he did, especially his fraternity. Kinyata Adams Brown, associate dean of engagement, diversity, and inclusive excellence released statement while confirming his death on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
Kinyata Adams Brown posted that “Donald was one of the kindest student leaders who was always willing to help and serve in the Winthrop and local community. His family, fraternity brothers and friends were extremely important to him. His smile and presence on our campus will greatly be missed.”

Spartanburg County’s sheriff has reported that an individual was shot and killed by responding cops after brandishing a butcher knife and charging at them at an Upstate apartment complex where a woman had been found dead. The shooting at the Bon Aire Apartments on South Randolph Avenue in Landrum is being looked into by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. Sheriff Chuck Wright of Spartanburg County said the incident started when a Landrum police officer responded to a domestic dispute complaint at 4 a.m.
Officer came to find a wheelchair-bound woman who had recently passed away and a man with what Wright called “a very large butcher knife.” Officers from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office went to help the victims at the scene. According to Wright, none of the police officers were hurt during the exchange of gunfire.
