Derrick Hassan Cause Of Death, Obituary Not Yet Available – Derrick Hassan joined the South Wales Police Force in 1972 and rose through the ranks to become a detective in the CID. He also became a prominent figure in the local Black Police Association (BPA), encouraging other members of minority groups to join the force.
According To bbc.com, Ceri, his widow, said he paved the door for other persons of color who wished to join the police force. “He was a fantastic mentor who enjoyed assisting and guiding them, and when the BPA was founded, there were a lot of new members,” she recalled. “I believe they regarded Derrick as the group’s senior member, the first to offer counsel.”
“A lot of black folks were hesitant to come forward,” Ceri explained. But anytime he spoke to someone, he always encouraged them to go ahead and accomplish it, and he was always available for counsel and to talk things out.”
In 1964, Derrick joined the Merchant Navy as a teenager. He returned to Cardiff after four years at sea and began a carpentry apprenticeship. Derrick’s desire to join the force was influenced by his father Moses, a prominent member of the Somali community in Cardiff docklands.
