Dedric Demond Willoughby died at the age of 49 on Thursday, the 20th of July 2023. He was announced dead through publications shared on Facebook by fans. “Rest In Peace, Dedric Willoughby. One of the most prolific combo guards from Louisiana, coachable, competitive and very supportive parents.” No cause of death for Dedric Willoughby was reported.

Dedric Willoughby – Bio
Dedric Demond Willoughby, born on May 27, 1974, in New Orleans, Louisiana, was a renowned American former professional basketball player. Standing tall at 6’3″, he began his college basketball journey at the University of New Orleans before transferring to Iowa State University, where he was coached by Tim Floyd at both institutions.
Career
During his time at Iowa State, Willoughby showcased his talent, finishing as the runner-up for the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Award in two consecutive seasons. In his senior year, he maintained an impressive average of 18.9 points per game while shooting an impressive 45% from beyond the arc.
After pursuing a professional basketball career in Italy, Willoughby got the opportunity to join the Chicago Bulls for the 1999-2000 NBA season, reuniting with his coach, Tim Floyd. He featured in 25 games that season, even earning one start, and managed to achieve an average of 7.6 points.
In the subsequent season, Willoughby signed with the Sydney Kings of the Australian National Basketball League. Sadly, he suffered a knee injury during practice, leading to his release from the team. However, he didn’t let the setback hinder his passion for the sport. He later took on a coaching role with the All-Iowa Attack youth basketball program in Ames, Iowa, continuing to contribute to the basketball community in a different capacity.
