Death, SFC Christopher O’Brien 46 Has Passed Away: At home with his family by his side, SFC Christopher W. O’Brien, 46, peacefully died on Friday, May 10, 2024. His parents were William O’Brien (Connie), Marie Medick, and the late Michael Medick. He came into this world in Glens Falls, New York on September 11, 1977. Chris proudly served his nation from 1996 to 2016 as an infantryman in the United States Army. He served as both a recruiter and a drill sergeant.
In addition to supporting his family and earning the Combat Infantryman Badge while serving in Iraq, Chris saw the globe. After returning home, he found employment with Gerald B.H. Solomon at Saratoga National Cemetery, where he served as a program support assistant. With unwavering fervor, Chris cheered for the New York Yankees and “Da Bears” in the NFL. Just before he passed away, he was elated to have finally taken his son Cade to a Bears game at Soldier Field, a dream he had always wanted.
Taking his family on field trips to famous landmarks was one of his favorite things to do, and he became famous for dropping cryptic historical references he picked up along the way. Along with his passion for beekeeping, Chris also relished spending winters camping in Keene Valley with his stepfather. Most importantly, he was and is a very bright and humorous human being. He was the life of the party, and we will all miss him terribly. His stepfather, grandparents, and a number of aunts and uncles had all passed away before him.
The O’Brien family will always remember him fondly: his wife Christi, their sons Cade, Oliver, and William; his mother Marie Medick; his father William and his wife Connie; his siblings Erin Kurz and Bill, Dane Polidore and Rachel, Shannon Sharpe and Joseph, and Katie O’Brien and Austin Sneed; his nieces and nephews Chloe, Andrew, Jillian, Landon, Dane, Sean, Lexi, Ian, Joseph, Zach, and Jordyn; and a large number of aunts, uncles, and cousins will cherish him.
The M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, located at 82 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828, will be open to friends and family on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 2 to 5 p.m. At 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Edward, NY, there will be a graveside service with military honors. Please consider donating to the American Cancer Society or the South High Marathon Dance at 42 Merritt Road, South Glens Falls, NY 12803 or 21741 (Hagerstown, MD 21741). Chris would be eternally grateful.
