Soon after, dispatchers received several calls from witnesses in the Forest Falls area reporting an unknown subject yelling for aid.

An unresponsive male person was discovered near the base of the Big Falls Waterfall by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation aircraft, which was dispatched to the location.
Carey was later positively identified as the subject. A helicopter crew member was carried down to the base of the falls during the hours of darkness to provide Carey with air. Regrettably, rescuers discovered Carey had died as a result of his injuries. Carey fell around 80 feet, according to investigators.
