Death; Michael Tucker, died at HMP Wayland, inquest hears: On February 3, 2023, Michael Tucker was sent from Chelmsford jail to HMP Wayland, which is located close to Thetford. The 40-year-old had been prescribed medicine for emotional dysregulation, sadness, and anxiety while she was at Chelmsford. He saw a psychiatrist two days after coming to Wayland, and the psychiatrist adjusted his prescription.
During his inquiry, the Norfolk Coroner’s Court was informed of his struggles with suicidal ideas and that he was placed under close observation. On March 22, he was carried back to his cell to calm down after destroying prison property since one of his meds had been denied to him for the evening. It was during a planned observation at 5:33 p.m. that prison officials last saw him. At 6:01 p.m., after another, he was discovered hanging in his cell.
The paramedics pronounced him dead at the site when he refused to respond to CPR. His family provided a statement to the Norwich-based court; they were not in attendance on the first day of proceedings.
“Michael was raised in East London and went to school in Leyton,” they stated.
Although he lacked an academic mind, it seems clear that if he had gone to school in the modern day, he would have been given greater support to realize his full potential. “Despite his lack of academic background, Michael had a strong interest in sports, particularly karate, and trained under Ticky Donovan, the England national squad instructor.”
Michael continued and earned a purple belt. He soon started boxing and working out at several gyms to become in better shape. His strength was “something he was proud of,” according to his family. “A promising career as a jockey took hold after leaving school, and Michael joined Martin Pitman’s stud farm as an apprentice jockey,” the statement continued.
“Michael returned to the family business of working in the markets and car boot sales after giving up his career as a jockey.”
For a number of years, Mr. Tucker and his family sold produce and fruit at farmers’ markets and clothing stores. His relatives went on, “His manner and character would certainly bring in the customers.” “He would frequently be described as a cheeky chap and a rough diamond.” Michael was an eccentric guy who laughed a lot and led a busy life. “He had a lot of strength and energy, which might be a useful asset when applied appropriately.
He was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and family, sometimes without considering the repercussions for himself. “Throughout his life, Michael encountered challenges and served several years in jail for a range of crimes. “In retrospect, this was a waste of his brief life, and his family and friends were deeply saddened that he passed away at the age of forty.”
Mr. Tucker was residing in Essex at the time of his offense, according to testimony given to the County Hall-based court. Eight days are anticipated for the inquiry, which is being presided over by local coroner Samantha Goward in front of a jury.
