Death; Johnny Morris Obituary, A Cherished drummer From Richmond, VA Has Passed Away: Virginia’s Richmond We announce with heavy hearts and deep sorrow the departure of Johnny Morris, our first soul brother, friend, and drummer. Yesterday, Johnny departed from this life in the arms of his devoted family. There are no words to describe our feelings of sadness or how much we already miss him. Johnny was not only a superb musician but also a warm, compassionate person who had a wonderful influence on everyone he came into contact with.
Many more were made happy by his contagious smile and unwavering love of music, both on and off stage. He was a great drummer, but he was also a soul brother and a close friend. There won’t be a regular funeral service, as Johnny would have it. He would have like to be remembered with love and joy rather than with regret. We will eventually celebrate his lively life, music, friends, and family in his honor. Johnny’s remarkable talent and commitment were showcased via his musical career.
He had the good fortune to tour the globe and share the stage with some of the greatest musicians in history, including The Legendary Blues Band, Albert Collins, Koko Taylor, and Elvin Bishop. His experiences and partnerships honed his creative skills, winning over audiences worldwide. In addition, Johnny was a major player at the “Old Dominion Opry” in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he worked as a contract musician for three years before being offered a full-time gig.
At this point, he began to refine the country aspect of his playing, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to the art. Regardless of the genre or setting, Johnny never lost his humility or willingness to work with other musicians in spite of his many accomplishments. His contagious warmth and love of music permeated not just Richmond’s clubs but also recording sessions and other social events.
In addition, Johnny had a strong desire to mentor young artists one-on-one in order to impart his knowledge and abilities. He was always willing to share his knowledge and felt that music had the ability to unite people. Johnny was not only a gifted drummer but also a beloved friend, guide, and mentor to those who knew him. Everyone who had the good fortune to have the opportunity to meet him will always cherish his music and companionship.
We cherish the love and inspiration that he left behind as we listen to his recordings and reflect on the happiness he brought into our lives. Johnny Morris, you have our eternal thanks and we will always love you. You have undoubtedly made a positive difference in our lives. My friend and soul partner, I wish you find serenity.
