Many individuals in Muncie and East Central Indiana met John Carlson during his lengthy newspaper career, whether it was in interviews, at community events, or just while enjoying a delicious meal or a drink at a neighborhood bar or eatery.

According to thestarpress.com, Many more surely felt as though they knew him from reading his editorials and stories throughout the years, first in The Muncie Evening Press and then in The Star Press, even if they’d never met him in person.
“Tonight Indiana is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of it’s most gifted writers, a humorist, author and longtime journalist who befriended everyone he ever met. John Carlson’s wit and enthusiasm inspired and encouraged other writers to follow his example, myself included. There will be no way to fill the void he has left for his loving wife Nancy and his children. But we are all blessed to forever have his books, his columns and his humor to brighten our lives. John Carlson you are gone too soon. Rest peacefully.”
Carlson – known to many as “Ace,” a nickname reputedly derived from his having acquired his pilot’s license as a youngster — worked as a reporter, editor, columnist, and feature writer during his decades-long career in Muncie newspapers, retiring in 2014. After that, he continued to write — columns and novels — and maintained his adoring, devoted following in the community.
