Death: Jim Wrinn, the long-serving editor of Trains magazine, has passed away – Readers of Railway Track & Structures and Railway Age are likely to be familiar with Jim Wrinn. Jim was a friend who assisted me in starting my career in railroad journalism. For his family, friends, numerous professional railroaders, and millions of rail aficionados, today is a sad day.
Kevin Keefe, a retired Vice President – Editorial and former Editor of Trains, wrote Jim’s obituary, which can be found on trains.com. Kevin and Kalmbach Media have given permission for the obituary to be reproduced below.
Jim Wrinn, the editor of Trains magazine for more than 17 years after a heroic 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer, died at home on March 30, 2022, after a valiant 14-month battle. He was 61 years old at the time.
Wrinn’s tenure as editor was second only to the renowned David P. Morgan, who headed the magazine for more than 33 years before passing away in 1990 at the age of 62. Morgan’s editorship and articles had a profound impact on Wrinn, who began reading Trains at the age of six in 1967.
