Death – Obituary News: On Friday night, a driver died after colliding with Bunker Brewpub, which is located beneath Peabody’s Nightclub on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
A Virginia State Police trooper on routine patrol witnessed a Toyota sedan speed by his marked unit in the eastbound lanes of I-264 at First Colonial Road at approximately 10:58 p.m. The vehicle was clocked at almost 100 miles per hour. The trooper attempted to pull over the driver.
According to wtkr.com, The trooper deactivated his emergency equipment as the driver approached the Oceanfront, passing Parks Avenue, but the driver continued east towards Pacific Avenue.
The driver sideswiped multiple automobiles as he approached halted traffic at Pacific Avenue and 21st Street, then continued to crash into Peabody’s Night Club, which is located on the corner of the junction.
The vehicle caught fire, and the driver, who was the lone occupant, died as a result of the collision.
After the crash, three Virginia Beach Police officers attempted to rescue the driver, but they were injured by smoke inhalation.
Flying debris struck two people. One was rushed to the hospital, while the other refused to be treated. To assist with the investigation, the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction team has been dispatched to the location.
At this time, there is no additional information to give. Authorities are working to identify the driver and notify their family members.
