Dean Goedken Death – Dean A. Goedken, a longtime resident of Winthrop, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Dean who died as a result of a farming accident near Garnavillo was 62 years old at the time. The news of his death was shared in a social media publication that read “I knew you for such a short time. You accepted me into the family even if I was some city boy, Cardinals fan. I promised the day you let me marry your daughter to take care of her. I will uphold that promise until you two are reunited. Auf Wiedersehen, herr Goedken.”
Who was Dean Goedken?
The second youngest of Arthur Clarence Goedken and Edna Mae (Fisher) Goedken’s thirteen children, Dean Allen Goedken was born in Manchester, Iowa, on March 23, 1961. He was raised on a dairy cattle farm just south of Lamont. He completed his education at Starmont Community Schools in 1979. He was heavily involved in helping his neighbors and the family farm when he was younger. Nancy Adams and he were married on June 7, 1986.
In 1992, they moved to their farm north of Winthrop, where he worked in the fields and milked dairy cows for much of his working life. Stephanie, Jodie, Jared, and Taniesha are the four children that their marriage was blessed with. Later on, their marriage was dissolved. The final years of his life were devoted to adoring and spending time with his partner, Doreen Dee Olson.
Dean played softball, and volleyball, and found a neighborhood blackjack table much of his free time. He was an avid sports fan who supported the Chicago Cubs, Iowa State Cyclones, and Iowa Hawkeyes (but only for Taniesha). He loved all of his children’s and grandchildren’s pastimes. He will be sorely missed for his huge smile, sense of humor, and helpful neighborly nature. Doreen Olson, Dean’s girlfriend, and his grandchildren Carson, Kinsley, Jordyn, and Trey all loved and appreciated him.
