The Washington Police Department says that officers were sent to the suburb southeast of Washington DC following reports of shots being fired in the area. At the time this report was made, there are claims that the shooting resulted in multiple victims.

Tuesday’s shooting at a funeral home in Northeast D.C. left one man dead and three others injured, according to authorities. According to Metropolitan Police Department Chief Robert Contee, a funeral for a homicide victim had just been completed at the Stewart Funeral Home in the 4400 block of Benning Road NE at noon when those who were standing outside were shot.
According to Contee, a neighboring officer who heard the gunshots discovered four adults had been shot on April 11, 2023. When emergency personnel arrived, Terrell Coghill, 29, of Northwest D.C., had no indications of life. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner received his body. According to the authorities, a second guy and two women visited hospitals. Police were to be present at the funeral at the request of the deceased’s family, who wanted more protection.
Following the funeral, a number of people who were standing in the street appeared to be targeted, but authorities don’t yet know why, Contee added. According to Contee, police have not yet named a suspect, and detectives are still trying to reach out to any witnesses. The shooting was described as bold. A white Lexus IS350 that was observed on surveillance footage is being sought by police. The front passenger door of the vehicle could be damaged.
According to Contee, the family of Stephan Carroll, 24, requested that the officer who reacted to the incident be stationed close by. According to authorities, Carroll was shot and killed in the same part of Northeast D.C. in March. There were a lot of officers from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the D.C. police in the vicinity.
