Dawn Staley attended Murrell Dobbins Tech High School in Philadelphia, where her senior year she was named basketball player of the year. Staley travelled to Europe after graduating in 1992, where she played basketball in France, Italy, and Spain before returning home to join the Richmond Rage in 1996.
