So, how much money does Dan Snyder have now? Snyder’s net worth is estimated to be as high as $1.7 billion as of early 2016, making him one of the wealthiest sports owners. Snyder’s fortune has grown as a result of his several successful business ventures.

In his hometown, Snyder went to Hillandale Elementary School. Snyder attended the town’s private school after his family moved to Henley-on-Thames, England, when he was 12 years old. He returned to the United States at the age of 14 to live with his grandmother in Queens. He enrolled to the University of Maryland, College Park after graduating from Charles W. Woodward High School in Rockville, Maryland, and also worked at the B. Dalton bookstore.

He also began selling bus-trip packages alongside his father, which proved to be a failed endeavor. Snyder dropped out of college at the age of 20 and began leasing aircraft to fly college students to Fort Lauderdale and the Caribbean for spring breaks. Snyder’s introduction of Campus USA, a magazine focused at college students, was backed by a $3 million investment by entrepreneur Mortimer Zuckerman. The company, however, failed and was shut down two years later.

Snyder and his sister Michelle founded Snyder Communications LP, a wallboard advertising company, in 1989. Initially, the company’s concentration was on doctor’s offices and institutions. When the company became profitable, it expanded into other forms of marketing, including telemarketing. It quickly expanded into a multinational corporation that provided marketing services to the world’s most prominent clientele.

Annual revenues peaked at $9 million in 1993, but the corporation was growing, and by 1998, revenues had risen to $1 billion. Snyder’s fortune grew, and he was named the youngest CEO of the New York Stock Exchange. Later, the company was sold to Havas, a French advertising firm. With a value of $2 billion, this was the largest advertising purchase ever.

Snyder paid $800 million in 1999 for the Washington Redskins, his favorite football team, as well as the then-named Jack Kent Cooke Stadium. He sold 35 percent of the team to pay off the team’s debts, although he remained the team’s majority owner.

Since then, the Redskins have risen to become the third highest-earning team in the NFL, with annual earnings of roughly $245 million, greatly increasing Snyder’s fortune. FedEx, with whom Snyder signed a $207 million deal to sell naming rights to the team’s stadium, which was later called FedExField, was one of the team’s most influential sponsors. Snyder has spent more over $100 million on stadium renovations since the purchase.

Snyder also owns Red Zebra Broadcasting, a sports marketing firm that handles multiple radio stations focused on Redskins coverage. In the year 2000, he extended the business by purchasing a number of new stations. Snyder financed Tom Cruise’s production firm the next year, and was named an executive producer on the 2008 Tom Cruise film “Valkyrie.” He bought the famed dinner franchise Johnny Rockets the same year, but sold it in 2013. In addition, he purchased Dick Clark Productions, which he eventually sold for $175 million.

Snyder bought a 12 percent stake in Six Flags, the world’s largest amusement park operator, through his private equity firm Red Zone Capital in 2005, but it was a bad investment. Snyder is rumored to be interested in buying Tottenham Hotspur F.C., a London soccer club now valued at $725 million.

To speak of Snyder’s personal life, he has been married to Tanya Snyder, a former Atlanta fashion model who is now a champion for Breast Cancer Awareness, since 1994. The couple is the parents of three children.

Snyder is a dedicated philanthropist who established the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, which focuses on the development of young people in the areas of education, health, and wellbeing. Since its inception in 2000, the foundation has spent more than $15 million to achieve its objectives.

Following the September 11th attacks, Snyder donated $1 million to help the victims. He also donated $600,000 to the victims of the 2004 tsunamis in Indonesia and Thailand, as well as to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Snyder has also donated to the Washington Children’s Hospital and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
