Daniel Ducharme, 31, identified as victim that died on I-91 in Hatfield, Massachusetts: According to the authorities in Massachusetts, a man was pulled out of his vehicle by a bear after a traffic accident, and he later died as a result of his injuries.
A man named Daniel Ducharme, who was 31 years old, was identified as the victim. According to the authorities, he was the only person who was in the vehicle.
At approximately eleven o’clock on Sunday morning, the driver of the car lost control of it while it was traveling southbound on Interstate 91 in Hatfield, according to David Procopio, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police.
According to Procopio, the vehicle collided with a guardrail on multiple occasions, then proceeded off the road, down an embankment, and finally entered the woods, where it collided with several trees.
Ducharme was either completely or partially expelled from the vehicle, and a bear continued to pull him out of the vehicle after he had been ejected.
“Evidence suggests the bear at some point had made contact with the victim’s body,” said Procopio, who stated that emergency crews noticed a bear in the woods close to the crash scene. Procopio also stated that the bear was seen by the crews.
According to reports, the bear fled the area while emergency personnel were dispatched to the location.
Attempts are being made by investigators to determine the factors that led to Ducharme losing control of his car in the first place.
It is also unknown if Ducharme was killed by the crash or by the bear; nonetheless, according to Procopio, he “most likely” passed away as a result of the collision.
The investigation is still ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police.
