Dan Wright Death – Dan Wright, one of East Newport’s best riders was pronounced dead on April 16, 2023. His death was announced by the East Newport team. Dan was a gifted and entertaining rider who won numerous Welsh championships and represented Wales internationally. He competed for the Wales junior squad in the World Cup in 2015 and 2019 and earned a spot in the 2019 Junior World Final in Poland.

East Newport stated that “it is with deep regret that we announce the devastating news that Dan Wright, one of the best riders to come out of East Newport Cycle Speedway has passed away in the early hours of Monday Morning. Our hearts are breaking for Chris, Becky and their young family and his loss will be felt by so many in the local community where he lived and within Cycle Speedway who knew him so well. The club are trying to come to terms with this loss and nothing will happen now without consultation with Becky and Chris. Please allow them time to grieve and we will give more news as and when we are aware.”
He participated for Wales in the European Cup Championships in 2016 and 2018 to add to his list of international appearances. In the British Junior Championship at Kesgrave in 2019, he rode to sixth place, which was his best finish in the British Championships.
In the Battle of Britain, he further represented the South and South Wales regional squad. The East Newport Cycle Speedway club has its headquarters in the center of the Underwood neighborhood.
