Dakota Miller Death – The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office has made public their preliminary findings from their investigation into the car accident that took the lives of four members of the same family on June 10th, north of Riggins. According to the report, the first deputy to arrive on the scene on Saturday at approximately 1:00 p.m. spotted a 2005 Toyota Prius with Washington license plates that was partially immersed in the water.
The car had veered off the roadway roughly 30 feet and was submerged between 5 and 7 feet into the river while it was lying in place after having flipped over. In the report written by the deputy, it is said that debris was seen on the southbound shoulder of US95 at roughly milepost 199, which is consistent with a crash having occurred there.
It was possible to make out tire tracks in the grass just off the shoulder of the roadway, at between fifty and seventy-five meters to the north of the vehicle that was in the river. On one stretch of highway, there are no guard rails to provide protection. A man named Calvin “CJ” Miller, aged 36, his daughter Dakota Miller, aged 17, his son Jack Miller, aged 10, and his daughter Delihia Miller, aged 8, were all passengers in the vehicle. All of them called Spokane their home.
According to the report and based on the first findings of the investigation, it is likely that Dakota Miller was overtired while travelling from Spokane to Council, and fell asleep while driving as a result. After leaving the roadway, Dakota crashed into a massive mound of rocks, which sent their vehicle flying through the air. The vehicle collided with another substantial heap of rocks, which caused it to roll end over end and come to rest in the Salmon River in an inverted position.
The window on the driver’s side of the vehicle was shattered, but the other windows on the vehicle remained undamaged. This allowed extremely frigid water to enter the cab of the vehicle, where all four people were sitting safely in their seats, but they nonetheless drowned since they were unable to escape the water. An additional investigation into the collision is currently being carried out by the Idaho State Police.
