According to reports, Emily Lewerenz and Danny Johnson passed away from injuries sustained in the fatal automobile crash. Both attend D.C. Everest High School. Emily was the valedictorian for the class of 2023 this year.

On Thursday evening at around 7:30 p.m., the Wausau Police Department and the Wausau Fire Department responded to a report of a crash on State Highway 29 eastbound, west of US Highway 51, in which one person had been killed. The Wausau Police Department is now looking into a big car accident.
As a direct consequence of the collision, as well as the subsequent and ongoing inquiry into the incident, State Highway 29 has been shut down in both directions. The westbound lanes of State Highway 29 are closed between US 51 and the on-ramp for Highway 52 Parkway/Stewart Avenue in Wausau. It is not possible to travel eastward on State Highway 29 from the 72nd Avenue on-ramp.
At this time, traffic is being rerouted off State Highway 29 onto Stewart Avenue, which runs through Wausau. The Crash Reconstruction/Investigation Team of the Wausau Police Department anticipates that their investigation will be finished and that the streets will reopen by roughly midnight on Friday.
