Cynara Lewis Death – 29-year-old Cynara Lewis passed away following a double stabbing in Peterborough, Ontario on Wednesday. According to reports, Cynara died following the incident that occurred in an apartment in the area of an apartment on Simcoe Street. Law enforcement agencies responded to the scene at approximately 9 P.M., and arriving officers located the Peterborough woman injured and a second victim identified as a 30-year-old man. Both were transported to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre where Cynara Lewis succumbed to her injuries.
A suspect was identified after an inquiry and study of footage from police-maintained and private CCTV cameras in the neighborhood. Officers received word at 12:30 a.m. that the suspect had been sighted in a forested area near Ashburnham Drive and Maria Street. The area was visited by the Emergency Response Team, the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Unit, officers from the Investigative Services Unit, and an OPP K9 Unit. Officers arrived to find that two ladies known to the suspect had been verbally threatened and one had been attacked with a hatchet.
The two women managed to flee and were transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment. Officers continued their search in the woods, and two persons, a male and a female, were apprehended without incident. Jesse Rowe, 29, of Peterborough, was detained and charged in connection to the incident. Rowe’s charged includes:
- Second Degree Murder
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Assault with a weapon
- Utter threats X2
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2

Who Was Jesse Rowe?
Rowe has an extensive criminal record with the Peterborough Police Department that dates back to 2012, and he is currently facing court for armed robbery and probation violation. To maintain peace and good behavior, he is currently subject to the following terms of his probation order. Seven gun, restricted weapon, ammunition, and explosives bans are currently in effect for him. The suspect is currently under arrest and will be making an appearance in court today. The female victim’s family has been informed of her passing.
The Peterborough Police Service appreciates the community members who dialed 9-1-1 during this incident. A warrant for a shoplifting incident that occurred on August 27, 2023, led to the arrest of a 30-year-old woman from Peterborough who was located with the suspect. The woman was also charged with double verbal threats in relation to the incident in the woods.
The woman is scheduled to make an appearance in court today.
