According to reports, the Laurel High School student and Shore Elite Basketball Player passed away following the deadly shooting that happened at the Wexford Village Apartments on Sunset Drive on 56, Sunset Dr, Laurel, DE. According to Delaware State Police, no suspect has been taken into custody in connection to the incident. The Laurel Police Department was in charge of the investigation but handed it over to the Delaware State Police.

Corey Mumford was originally from Laurel, Delaware, and a student at Laurel High School located on 1133 S Central Ave, Laurel, DE. Following his death, his current Basketball Club – Shore Elite Basketball – wrote; “Like everyone else we are saddened to hear about the loss of Corey Mumford. We were lucky enough to have Corey play with us for 1 tournament last summer and our young boys were lined up to watch him play. He was a highlight reel. They had to know when his next game was. He had that affect on us and our athletes.”

The Laurel School District shared on Facebook how they are now supporting the school, its faculty, and its students. A faculty meeting will be scheduled on Monday, April 17, to give Laurel High School personnel instructions on how to help upset kids. Next week, students and staff can speak with counselors from the Delaware State Police’s Victim Services, Laurel Ministerial leaders, and LMHS’s Behavioral Health Coordinators. The Laurel Police Department will support the District Constable officers next week to guarantee the safety of the school, according to the district.
