Community Mourns Monica Kelly A Champion of Young Musicians: The Executive Director and close friend Monica Kelly, who died on Friday, May 3, is much missed by Bay Chamber Concerts and Music School. After fighting leukemia valiantly for several months, it was expected that she would recover and be able to resume her role as director of the organization she had overseen for more than ten years.
The Bay Chamber’s music school was founded and its venerable concert series kept expanding in stature and popularity under Monica’s outstanding direction. The group built a new, cutting-edge house in Camden that will formally open in July after reaching its $8 million campaign target thanks to her leadership and tenacity. She was a big inspiration to the Bay Chamber employees; she led with style, patience, and a sharp business sense.
She leaves the organization in capable hands as a result. Her legacy is respected and the staff and board are prepared to carry on the work to which she was so dedicated. She was a much-loved and respected member of the Midcoast community in addition to her great commitment to Bay Chamber. Colleagues, friends, and family will all be very saddened by her passing.
