Community Action grants total $65,000 from BHACF.

 The Black Hills Area Community Foundation handed out Community Action Grants last week totaling $65,000 in total funding. WellFully and Abbott House each received $50,000 in order to fund their “Jobs on Wheels” project, while Historic Homestake Opera House was awarded $15,000 in order to promote their education and outreach programs.

Teenagers who are considered to be at risk are offered trauma-informed treatment at both WellFully and Abbott House. These programs begin with youngsters in middle school and continue on through young adults who are as old as twenty-one years old. The young people who are a part of each of the organizations that are participating in the collaborative project will have the opportunity to learn essential life skills, work ethics, and financial responsibility in order to better prepare themselves for success in the workforce. Burke Eilers is ecstatic about the possibility that his children will have the opportunity to acquire experience that is relevant to real life because he believes that this will be an amazing opportunity for them to do so. Students will not only learn what is involved in running or operating a business, but also develop the skills essential to conduct job interviews and learn how to sustain employment.

In addition, they will study what is involved in running or operating a business. This is a curriculum that focuses an emphasis on both training for the workforce as well as life skills, and it has a lot of potential for doing both of those things well. Both organizations have previous experience working together to serve the same types of customers, and they are pleased about the possibility of doing so once more on this combined initiative because it will give them the opportunity to do so. This will allow them to serve their customers more effectively.

The Historic Homestake Opera House has big aspirations for the educational and community outreach initiatives that they are already a part of, especially the collaboration that they have with the Lawrence County Teen Court Program.

“We love the notion of using various forms of art, particularly theater, to enrich the lives of young people who may be wanting to find their way by encouraging them to engage in activities that are good and meaningful,” said Carrie Robley, who serves as the programs manager at BHACF. “We love the notion of using various forms of art to enrich the lives of young people who may be wanting to find their way.”
