Arts and Culture Centre – St. John’s confirmed him dead on Wednesday 12th April 2023 in a post that reads “We at the Arts and Culture Centre are saddened by the loss of Newfoundland and Labrador theatre icon and trailblazer, Chris Brooks”. No cause of death was mentioned.
Chris Brooks Career
Chris Brookes was an author, a storyteller, and an independent audio producer. For the past three decades, he has worked as a professional audio documentarian crafting audio stories. They have been aired all over the world and have been recognized with over forty different international honors, some of which include the Peabody Award and the Prix Italia. He was a recipient of the Order of Canada, was recognized as an International Audio Luminary by the 3rd Coast International Audio Festival, is enshrined in the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Hall of Fame, and holds an honorary doctorate from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
He works on developing smartphone applications that embed narratives into the topography of Newfoundland villages. He can’t stop telling stories in the vain hope that one day he’ll be able to tell them effectively since narrative is his obsession. Independent radio producer Chris Brooks from Newfoundland has been making audio documentaries as a career for the past three decades. These documentaries have been aired all over the world and have taken home a number of medals at festivals all over the world.
