On Tuesday morning, at least 10 people were shot and injured in Denver neighborhoods where basketball enthusiasts were partying to celebrate the Nuggets’ first NBA championship. The shooting, police said, started over a botched narcotics deal. One of the two suspects, and nine others, were injured. On Tuesday, Police Chief Ron Thomas indicated that doctors expect a full recovery for the victims. Five or six people who did not take part in the narcotics transaction are included in this number, according to the authorities.

About three and a half hours after the end of the game, shooting erupted at 12:30. About a mile away from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat on Monday night, police reported hearing 20 gunshots. The Denver Police Department has brought the male suspect, who was injured, into custody. “As far as what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time,” said police spokesperson Doug Schepman. “It did take place in the region where we had the greatest concentration of revelers last night.”

Overnight on Tuesday, the area was cordoned off by police as detectives combed over the scene, which was littered with evidence markers and what appeared to be party leftovers including an electric scooter and a green rental bike. According to Schepman, there was a very modest throng in the neighborhood at the time of the shooting, although it had “diminished quite a bit at that point.” According to Schepman, the incident occurred near an area where many people would have emerged from pubs after the game.

Schepman said that the probe was “extensive” and that police were still conducting interviews with potential witnesses. Spokesperson Heather Burke reported that eight persons were taken to Denver Health Medical Centre, with one in critical condition, one in fair condition, and six in excellent condition. She suggested that anyone with inquiries regarding the two other casualties contact the authorities. Schepman claimed that more police had been stationed there in preparation for the party. He explained that the rapid reaction time was due to the large number of officers present in the area around 20th and Market at the time of the incident.
