South African actress Chantal Herman was announced dead yesterday, Thursday, the 18th of May 2023. She died at the age of 44. “It is with a sad heart to let you know that Chantal Herman, my sister and daughter of Tony and (the late) Sybil Herman, passed away peacefully this morning.” Thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.

Chantal Herman’s early life
Chantal was an actor from South Africa. She was born on April 21, 1979, and raised in Cape Town by her mother, Sybil, a primary school teacher, and her father, Anthony, an IT manager. Chantal went to the Waterfront Theatre School and got her Performer’s Diploma, Trinity College and Associate Teacher’s Diplomas in National, Tap, Ballet, and Modern Dance. She was also in charge of lighting and sound for a year.
Career
In Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014), she played “Djamila, a dying woman on Plain” with Simon Pegg. She also played “Candy” in “Sy Klink Soos Lente” and “Young Medic” in “Prisoner of War” in 2016. Chantal has been in a lot of South African TV shows, like Isidingo, Generations, and Shado’s. She has also been in Molo Fish II, Jozi Streets, Saints, Sinners, Settlers, and Meeulanders as well.
In 2016, she was nominated for a South African Film and TV Best Sitcom Lead Actress Award for her role as the delightfully intense English teacher Sylvia Hiscock in the TV sitcom “Those Who Can’t.” Chantal has directed two TV pilots and a family story called “Christmas in the City” for SABC television.
She was the creative director of the famous kids’ show Thabang Thabong and sang the title song and many other songs for the show. Chantal also wrote for Bookstars, an educational show for kids. Her theatre parts include Mimi Marquez in RENT, which was directed by Anthony Rapp, and supporting roles in Thoroughly Modern Millie, We Will Rock You, The Wizard of Oz, Evita, Noah of Cape Town, Guga MZimba, and Little Shop of Horrors. Chantal works as a speech actor and character actor in Johannesburg.
