Today would have been Emmett Till’s 81st birthday. He had every right to age. That was taken away from him, and the murderers got away without being held accountable. That is the reality we have to face, and it is the reality we must have the courage to transform in the future to one of justice.

“Till’s kidnapping and k!lling became a catalyst for the civil rights movement when his mother insisted on an open-casket funeral in their hometown of Chicago after his brutalized body was pulled from a river in Mississippi.  Till traveled from Chicago to visit relatives in Mississippi in August 1955. Donham — then named Carolyn Bryant — accused him of making improper advances on her at a grocery store in the small community of Money.” – According to reports
