Carl Wayne Buntion Cause Of Death, Obituary Unavailable Yet – According to KHOU, Carl Wayne Buntion, 78, was given a fatal injection at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday for the 1990 murder of a Houston cop.
As reported by the-sun.com, At 7.39 p.m. ET, he was pronounced dead. Officer James Irby was shot in the head and multiple times while laying on the ground during a traffic stop by Buntion.
Buntion’s final remark was made public shortly after his death. Buntion’s lawyers argued that the execution was “cruel and unusual punishment,” but a Texas parole board unanimously denied his clemency request 7-0.
“I pray to God that they get the closure for me killing their father and Ms. Irby’s husband,” he said during his final statement.
According to anti-death penalty groups, the 78-year-old man was one of the oldest persons on death row in the United States and had battled several illnesses.
