Caleb Sandoval, after a diverse and successful legal career he resumed his service to the MSU community in December 2015 as Team RCPD’s Chronic Health Specialist. He first worked with the RCPD from 1995 to 1997 as a work-study student. Then, after earning his undergraduate degree in Psychology, Caleb went on to excel at Western Michigan University’s T. M. Cooley Law School.
While there, he maintained his focus on and led many efforts to forward the interests of persons with disabilities while serving as an elected SBA Senator and Chair of Cooley’s Diversity Committee. After earning his law degree, Caleb worked for two years as an Attorney Advisor for the Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.
He feels more than privileged to join Team RCPD and to apply all his skills, experience, and passion for working with the MSU community–especially those with chronic health concerns.
Caleb recognizes that each person’s case is different and presents new opportunities for creativity and innovation. For him, the excitement of his position lies in listening to each story, asking thoughtful questions, and encouraging individuals to make the most of their time here as a Spartan.
For many students with chronic illness, this is hard work that requires frequent communication with professors, invested involvement with campus resources, and proactive management of illness, along with the academic and social demands of college life.
Caleb is committed to understanding each student’s unique history, challenges, and strengths in order to best encourage and guide their navigation toward an MSU degree. For employees with chronic health disabilities, Caleb will advocate and work to find the best and most comprehensive solutions available.
In his free time, Caleb enjoys spending time with his friends and family. He and his wife, Leanne, are enjoying every minute in their roles of mother and father to their beautiful little girl, Charlotte.
As a life-long Michigander, Caleb also loves to travel throughout our beautiful state and adores favorites like Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City Wine Country. As a proud alum of MSU Accafellas and Men’s Glee Club, Caleb enjoys singing and attending music concerts whenever he can.
I’m a wreck. Just found out about the sudden passing of a wonderful guy and friend, Caleb Sandoval, far too soon. He was such a strong and positive force. He will be immensely missed by many throughout our community.
Life is so fragile. I’m broken for his family, colleagues, and friends. Tell your loved ones you love them.__Justin Caine
