Buzz Aldrin is a retired astronaut and engineer who is most known for being one of the first two men to walk on the moon in 1969, a feat he shares with Neil Armstrong. He is also a former US Air Force officer, and all of his accomplishments have contributed to his current net worth.
Buzz Aldrin’s net worth is unknown. Sources believe that he has a net worth of $10 million as of mid-2016, which he has accumulated primarily through a renowned military and NASA career. He was granted the opportunity to be an astronaut after his military success. He’s also appeared in a number of television shows and films, all of which have contributed to his wealth.
Buzz Aldrin has a net worth of $10 million dollars.
Buzz Aldrin’s father was a military officer, and after graduating from Montclair High School, he turned down an offer from MIT to join the military and attend West Point. His nickname stemmed from his sister mispronouncing his brother’s name as buzzer, and he eventually changed his name to Buzz officially. He graduated from West Point with a degree in mechanical engineering, but went on to become a jet fighter pilot and flew 66 combat flights during the Korean War as a Second Lieutenant. He worked as an instructor at Nellis Air Force Base after the war and subsequently as an aide at the US Air Force Academy. With the completion of Squadron Officer School, he continued his military studies and went on to become a flight commander. He eventually went to MIT for graduate school, earning a Dsc in Astronautics, and was later chosen to be an astronaut.
Buzz was a member of the third batch of Astronauts when he joined NASA in 1963. They were assigned to be Gemini 9’s backup crew, and later he was promoted to pilot of Gemini 12. He was then chosen to join Neil Armstrong on Apollo 11, becoming the second man to walk on the moon and the first person to urinate on it. He had hoped to be the first man to walk on the moon, but a number of variables, including the fact that Neil Armstrong was the commander, conspired to prevent him from accomplishing his goal. On the moon, he held a religious service and received communion. Later in life, he would come to regret his conduct, telling people that the moon landing was for all mankind, regardless of religion.
Buzz departed NASA in 1971 to become Commandant of the United States Air Force Test Pilot School, but he retired a year later.
After retiring, he wrote “Return to Earth,” his autobiography, as well as “Magnificent Desolation.” He went on to co-author a number of books and speak publicly on clinical depression and drinking. There was a computer game called “Buzz Aldrin’s Race Into Space” that was named after him. He also provided voices for “Futurama” and “The Simpsons.” He had appearances in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” as well as “Space Brothers” and “The Big Bang Theory.”
Buzz was married three times in his personal life, the first time to Joan Archer (1954-74) with whom he had three children. The third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988, which ended in divorce in 2012. The second marriage was with Beverly Zile (1977–78), and the third with Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988, which ended in divorce in 2012. One of his daughters has given him a grandson. He expressed his sadness over the loss of fellow astronaut Neil Armstrong, saying that he had wanted to see him on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, but it was not to be.
