Bus Accident; 8 passed Away From Florida bus Accident, leaves eight in critical condition: Authorities said that at least eight persons were killed and eight more were badly injured when a bus transporting farm labourers in northern Florida crashed with a pickup vehicle on Tuesday and overturned. The bus crashed at approximately 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT), according to the Ocala StarBanner, which cited Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Fire Rescue authorities.
The workers were on their way to pick melons at Cannon Farms in Dunnellon, a small farming village approximately an hour’s drive south of Gainesville.According to a statement from Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Steve Gaskins, the bus side swiped a pickup truck, skidded off the road, and crashed through a fence before toppling over.
In an effort to show respect for the losses and injuries sustained early this morning in the tragedy, Cannon Farms, a commercial farm, announced on Facebook that it will be closed on Tuesday. Although Cannon stated that the accident “took place to the Olvera Trucking Harvesting Corp,” an official could not be contacted right away to provide more information.
Whether Olvera hired the workers or owns the bus is unclear. “Please pray with us for the families and the loved ones involved in this tragic accident,” stated Cannon. “We appreciate your understanding at this difficult time.”
When the accident occurred, there were 53 passengers on the bus. According to James Lucas, the public relations officer for Marion County Fire Rescue, the other 37 passengers were sent to hospitals for minor injuries.
