Bruce Johnson Birth and Education
Sculptor Bruce Johnson was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the 1960s, he attended the University of California in Davis for his art education. Throughout the past four decades, his productive studio has been a large barn and a meadow in the countryside of Sonoma County, with a view of the ocean. In spite of the fact that he lives in a rural area, Johnson has achieved notoriety on a global scale for his large-scale sculpture, which can be found in Italy, Spain, and Taiwan, in addition to numerous private and public collections in the United States.
Johnson frequently works with enormous slabs of reclaimed redwood, which he then embellishes with copper accents. He compares his creations to a combination of Stonehenge and Shinto shrines. The primal sense of scale, mass, and physical presence of his work comes from Stonehenge, and the elegant craft and exquisite detail of sacred architecture comes from Shinto Shrines.
Who was Bruce Johnson?
Johnson was not simply a sculptor, but also a skilled builder in his own right. He is responsible for the design and construction of one-of-a-kind structures, gardens, doors, gates, lanterns, playground equipment, fountains, grave markers, stage sets, and furnishings. His work on religious buildings, such as the Sea Ranch Chapel, the historic chapel at Fort Ross, a Moon Gate at the Asian Art Museum, and especially the wonderfully beautiful “Poetry House,” are of utmost significance to him. He is known for these buildings.
Many people has been elevated as a result of Bruce’s effervescent energy, his childlike wonder, and his infectious passion for exploring possibilities. This has occurred as a result of both his generous effect on individuals and the inspiration that his work has provided to many.
Bruce Johnson’s obituary will be released by the family
