Brian Turner Ill – Brian Turner disclosed that he was hospitalized last summer after suffering a stroke and thanked the ‘fantastic’ medical staff who cared for him. He revealed: “Yeah well unfortunately I had a stroke in June this year and the people at the London hospital were fantastic and helpful. So excuse me if I make a stammer occasionally, but we will catch up at the end.”
During an appearance on James Martin’s Saturday Morning, the renowned celebrity chef, 76, moved viewers to tears by discussing his recent health struggles. James, who refers to Brian as his “TV father,” introduced the Ready Steady Cook celebrity for a segment in which they prepared a delicious lamb dish together.
Before they began working, however, James reminded Brian that he had something he wanted to share live on air. The restaurateur then disclosed that he had suffered a stroke in June. Brian then disclosed that he is recovering from a stroke he suffered last summer and apologized to viewers if he stuttered during the segment.
Brian Turner’s early life
Turner was born in Halifax, West Riding of Yorkshire. During his early career, his mentor was the food writer and broadcaster Michael Smith. Turner worked at Simpson’s in the Strand and Richard Shepherd’s Savoy Grill. Turner returned to Britain to work at Claridge’s and then the Capital Hotel, where he and Richard Shepherd earned a Michelin star in 1971.
Chef Lecturer in early 1973. After Shepherd left in 1975, Turner became Chef de Cuisine and opened the Greenhouse Restaurant and Metro Wine Bar. Gary Rhodes and Shaun Hill were Turner’s Capital chefs. Turner opened his Walton Street, Knightsbridge restaurant Turner’s in 1986. He sold this in 2001. Brian Turner’s Restaurant opened at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham’s NEC in February 2002, and Brian Turner Mayfair opened at the Millennium Hotel in London in April 2003.
Career
Turner’s Grill opened at Copthorne Slough-Windsor in January 2005. A non-Turner Italian restaurant replaced Brian Turner Mayfair in July 2008. He invented snack food Brian Turner – S & C in 2003. Turner is Vivat Bacchus’ consultant chef. Turner was Granada Television’s This Morning’s resident chef for years. In 1994, he joined BBC2’s Ready Steady Cook as a guest cook. He also hosted “Anything You Can Cook” on BBC2.
Turner recently appeared on UKTV’s Perfect, BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, A Taste Of Britain with Janet Street-Porter (2014), Life On A Plate (2015), and ITV’s James Martin’s Saturday Morning (2021). Turner has also appeared on Daily Cooks Challenge, where two cooks prepare different dishes for a celebrity guest. Countdown Dictionary Corner featured him in May 2019. On January 14, 2023, Brian appeared on James Martin’s Saturday morning show as a guest chef.
