Brian Nygard Death – A man died after a shootout last weekend that also killed a veteran police officer. The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Bryan Nygard of Cyrus, Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Nygard passed away from multiple gunshot wounds after he engaged Pope County Deputy Josh Owen and two other law enforcement officers in a gun battle Saturday evening.
How did the shooting happen?
After receiving a call about domestic violence at an apartment in the town of Cyrus on Saturday night, the police went there and got into a fight. After being shot three times, Deputy Owen died. Deputy Owen, Pope County Deputy Brody Merrill, and Starbuck Police Officer Alex Olson were talking to Nygard and a woman when they first got to the apartment, according to the original investigation.
Condition of the victims
When they finally told Nygard that he was being taken, he stood up, pulled out a gun, and started shooting. Two of the cops fired back. The Starbucks cop was in a hallway and did not shoot. Nygard was pronounced dead at the scene, and Deputy Owen was taken to the hospital, where he died later.
Deputy Merrill was also shot and taken to the hospital, where he was treated and sent home. Officer Olson was shot in the leg, which was treated at the scene. Before the shooting, the woman who lived with Nygard had already left the flat. Body cameras were on all three cops. The videos are still being looked at by the police as part of the probe. Once the case is over, the public will be able to see copies of the videos that have been changed.
We are yet to confirm details for the obituary and funeral arrangements of Brian Nygard.
