Brendan Fitzsimmons Obituary, Death : Brendan Dalton Fitzsimmons, 51, of Williamsport, Maryland, passed away, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his home. Born on April 1, 1970 in New Orleans, LA, he was the son of Brady M. Fitzsimmons of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and A. Geraldine (Mannion) Fitzsimmons of Folsom, LA.
Brendan graduated from Covington High School in1988 and later graduated from Swarthmore College in 1992. He then attended University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and earned a Master in Musicology in 1995. Brendan always wanted to complete his doctorate and met this goal in 2018 when he received his PhD in Business Management with a specialization in Finance.
Brendan was employed as a financial adviser with Ferris Baker Watts then RBC and ended his career as President of Groh Enterprises. While at RBC he was awarded the 2016 Outstanding Achievement Award for Community Service.
Brendan served his community in many ways including his role on the Meritus Health Board of Trustees, Maryland Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors (President 2005-2007, 2015-2017), Washington County Arts Council, Washington County Free Library Board and Past Presidency of the Mercersburg Academy Parents Council and the Washington County Historical Society.
He participated in Leadership Maryland (Class of 2007), Fountain Head Country Club Member, Assembly Club, and was an Adjunct Faculty member at Hagerstown Community College. Brendan enjoyed volunteering as a Coach for HAYLA Lacrosse and a Deck referee and Starter with PIAA and USA Swimming for his children.
He also volunteered for the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, where he conducted the Fourth of July Celebratory Performance twice, as a firefighter in Folsom, and with Mercersburg Academy as a MAPS Consultant. Brendan was a Eurasier Dog Enthusiast, Organist, Musicologist and was awarded the James Hasson Distinguished Service Award at Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Katharine Groh Fitzsimmons; daughter, Barbara Katharine Fitzsimmons; son, Dalton Rauth Fitzsimmons of Williamsport, MD; three brothers, Ian Fitzsimmons and wife Katherine of Dallas, TX, Cavan Fitzsimmons and wife April of Asheville, NC and Devin Fitzsimmons and wife Katie of Chandler, AZ.
Services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 10:00 am, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Avenue Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Ernest Cibelli officiating.
Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Private interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mercersburg Academy Swim Program or to the Maryland Symphony Orchestra Educational Fund.
