Brandon S. Mills Death – Law enforcement agencies are investigating after a 35-year-old father of three was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in the City of Harrisonburg Sunday night. Brandon S. Mills, a Rockingham, Virginia man passed away in an officer-involved shooting at a Walmart store located on the 100 block of Burgess Road. The incident happened on Sunday, June 4, at approximately 8:00 p.m. Detectives with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office are in charge of the deadly shooting investigation.
According to preliminary investigations, the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Center got a 911 call reporting a person acting strangely and threatening staff with a knife inside the Walmart on the 100 block of Burgess Road. The suspect charged police from the Harrisonburg Police Department and deputies from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office when they arrived. An officer with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office fired and struck the suspect. Officers provided rapid medical assistance. Walmart was evacuated and would be closed for the rest of the evening.
Responding EMS took the suspect identified as Brandon S. Mills, 35, of Rockingham, VA, who had life-threatening injuries and was taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center, where he died from the injuries he sustained in the shooting. His body was taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for examination and autopsy. The encounter resulted in no injuries to either citizens or law enforcement officers. According to the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Culpeper Field Office, a knife was recovered at the scene of the incident. The investigation is still open and ongoing.
