Who was Bob Potter?
Potter was the main supporter from 2004 to 2019, and also in 2022 when the tournament went back to its “spiritual home.” From 1986 to 2019, the tournament was held there under the BDO banner. He was a dedicated and loving husband, a father who showed that hard work and desire could lead to greatness, and a man who showed that a humble spirit and a joyful heart could make everyone’s lives better.
About Lakeside Leisure Complex
The Lakeside Leisure Complex in Frimley Green, West Surrey, has a hotel, a conference centre, a theatre, and other places to have fun. From 1986 to 2019, the open and women’s BDO World Darts Championships were held there in January. In 1972, Bob Potter, who was born in 1928, bought Wharfenden House, as well as the land and lake around it. Soon, he doubled the size of the hall so that it could hold 1,000 people. The hall is mostly used to host comedians and musicians, both North American and foreign stars.
Later that decade, the Lakeside had a fire and then reopened. In 2010, the lake was mostly frozen over by January 7. This was the 25th year that the World Darts Championship was held there. On that day, the body of a man who was staying at a hotel for the week of the competition was found. Bob Potter Leisure Limited, which owns and manages the land, was fined £85,000 for health and safety problems.
Bob Potter obituary and funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by the family.
