Bill Ferguson Obituary

Bill Ferguson Obituary, Death : Bill Ferguson of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. Born on April 30, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, Bill was the youngest of four children born to E.J. and Myrtie Helen Ferguson.

In the mid 1940’s, the Ferguson family came home to Texas where Bill attended school from kindergarten through his graduation from both Nacogdoches High School in 1959, and from Stephen F. Austin in 1964.

While at SFASU, Bill was elected president of the freshman class as well as being a charter member of the school’s chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Bill continued to be a dedicated alum and avid sports fan, attending basketball games until a few weeks before his death. He knew players in most sports by name and interesting stories about their backgrounds.

Bill benefitted from a diversified work history including insurance, banking, feed sales, and petroleum land-man endeavors. He and Frances especially enjoyed their many years of working together in the ownership of the children’s retail store, Fleming’s Young Years. After retirement, Bill would say, “Retirement is highly underrated!” And he enthusiastically began collecting, restoring and traveling to show his antique vehicles and winning national recognition.

Bill loved people and enjoyed life to the fullest. Attending and participating in his grandchildren’s sporting and school events was of high priority, and he and Frances became familiar faces around Georgetown. He loved to travel and adored his two golden retrievers, Happy and Honey. Bill was a loyal friend to many and loved his family and friends unconditionally. He was a great example of a life well lived.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Frances Anne Jones Ferguson, and their daughter, April, and her husband, Doug Seaback of Georgetown. He was affectionately known as “Papa Bill” to his four grandchildren: Luke, Kyle, Anna Kate and Ali Seaback, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were very much a part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Neil Ferguson and Richard (Dick) Ferguson and sister, Sue (Ferguson) Turner.

A memorial service for Bill will be on Monday, February 21, at 2 PM at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. David Leard officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Stephen F. Austin or the Nacogdoches Animal Shelter.
