Ben Simmons Nets Debut – Benjamin David Simmons is an Australian professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. Given that Ben Simmons has been absent from the NBA for more than a year, some fans wondered if he would ever play again. Over the course of the previous season, his back problems and mental health difficulties worsened, ultimately forcing him to leave the Nets’ starting lineup.
On Monday, October 3rd, 2022, Simmons was back on the court. He was competing against players like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Unfortunately, the Nets lost the game by a lopsided score, but Simmons at least managed to make something positive of it by recording six points and four rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. Simmons discussed what last night means to him and whether or not he was nervous before the game in an interview with ESPN.
Simmons still has a lot to work on, but he certainly seems to be back in the correct frame of mind. Hopefully, this continues for the whole of the season. Ben Simmons played college basketball for one season with the LSU Tigers, after which he was named a consensus first-team All-American and the USBWA National Freshman of the Year.
Ben Simmons, a guard with the Brooklyn Nets, returned to the court on Monday after nearly a year and a half away. Simmons said he felt “amazing” while scoring six points, dishing out five assists, and grabbing four rebounds over 19 minutes in Monday’s 127-108 preseason loss to the 76ers. Simmons had previously pushed for a trade out of Philadelphia while citing mental health concerns, dealt with back surgery in the offseason, and pushed a trade out of Philadelphia.
He is so thankful that he could make it, Simmons said that “I am grateful just to be able to step on that floor. Step on an NBA floor again. I had a lot of fun out there.” Even though Simmons had 470 days between games, he occasionally displayed understandable rust, but overall, he appeared to be gliding around the court with ease. Prior to this past Monday, Simmons hadn’t participated in an NBA game since the Sixers’ Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in June of 2021.
