Death: Bella-Rae Birch, a toddler who died in a dog attack in St Helens, has been named – The 17-month-old baby girl who was mauled to death by her family’s new pet has been photographed for the first time. Bella-Rae Birch, a 17-month-old girl named today by Merseyside Police, was mauled by the animal at her home at around 3.50 pm on Monday, March 21.
Emergency services responded to the incident on Bidston Avenue in St Helens and transported the infant to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. Bella-family Rae’s had only purchased the dog a week before the incident, according to police. Following the horrible incident, the dog was humanely slaughtered.
Superintendent Steve Brazell said in a press release issued near the scene, “The town of Blackbrook and the entire Merseyside have woken up today to the most devastating news.” At around 3.50 p.m. yesterday, officers were dispatched to a house on Bidston Avenue.
“We were contacted by the family of Bella-Rae Birch, a 17-month-old daughter. Bella-Rae died under the most unbelievably tragic circumstances, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the wider community at this difficult time. At this point, we believe the family dog, which they had only purchased a week before, attacked Bella-Rae inside the family house.
