Beatriz Rafael Death – Innercity Struggle Academic Coordinator Beatriz Rafael of Los Angeles CA has sadly passed away. She died on Thursday 1st June 2023 after a deadly accident in Interstate 710 accident in Lynwood. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to information released, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner has identified the victim of a tragic multi-vehicle collision on the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Lynwood.
How did the accident happen?
Beatriz Rafael, 32 years old, lost her life in the accident. On Thursday at 1:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the southbound freeway and Imperial Highway. When they arrived, one person had been ejected from a vehicle and was lying in one of the freeway lanes. Witnesses reported that a black Jeep may have hit the freeway’s center and several vehicles, including a silver Mini Cooper, which sustained significant damage.
Rafael was declared dead at the scene according to the coroner’s report. The CHP closed all southbound lanes of the freeway while investigating the crash, with one lane reopening at around 2 a.m. and the remaining lanes at approximately 5 a.m. Beatriz grew up in South Central Los Angeles where she saw the educational inequalities and lack of resources affecting her community.

Many of her talented and bright peers were being forced out of the education system, motivating her to work with youth to help them achieve their academic and life goals. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Chican@ Studies with a minor in Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, Beatriz dedicated her time to mentoring and tutoring high school students through various programs. In 2014, she joined Innercity Struggle as the Academic Coordinator, overseeing the Academic Services component for seniors from United Students.
