Barra Amherst Accident – At 4:21 in the morning on Saturday, May 27, 2023, officers from the Amherst Police Department were dispatched to the Barra Restaurant, located at 105 Park Avenue, in response to a report of an accident involving a single car. When the authorities arrived, they discovered that a Volkswagen Tiquan from 2017 had collided with the structure, causing substantial damage.
Connor Cordy, 18, and Savannah Lee, 16, both of whom were riding in the vehicle, suffered injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening and were taken to Mercy health after the collision. At this time, it does not appear that impairment played any role in the collision that occurred. The Amherst Police Department is continuing its investigation into the crash at this time. On the site, the Amherst Fire Department and LifeCare aided the Amherst Police Department in their investigation.
Due to the incident, the annual Memorial Day Parade will re rerouted to the following:
- Start at High School on Washington St. southbound to Forest St.
- Right turn westbound to Park Ave.
- Left turn southbound on Church St.
- Left turn eastbound on Tenney Ave.
- Parade will conclude in green space at northeast corner of the Church St. and Tenny Ave.. All ball teams participating in the paradewill conclude and exit the parade east on Tenny Ave.

Accident involving two vehicles that took place on Tuesday in Pittsfield Township resulted in the death of an Amherst resident. Avery Susak, 24, was reportedly at the wheel of a gold 2009 Ford Focus while traveling eastbound on U.S. 20, as stated in a press release issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. According to the announcement, Susak made an attempt to get around a sedan that had stopped and was getting ready to turn onto Quarry Road. A 2020 Dodge Ram truck being driven by Travis Butler, 29, from Erie, Michigan, was struck by the Focus vehicle.
The Ford drove off of U.S. Highway 20. In addition, the Dodge veered off the road and collided with several trees. Susak passed away as a result of the injuries he acquired in the accident. There was no indication in the news announcement that Butler had sustained any injuries. As a direct consequence of the collision, the intersection of United States Highway 20 and Quarry Road was shut down for approximately four hours.
