Bar Attack – 8 People Were Killed In A Shooting Attack In Ecuador, Local Police Say: Ecuador’s Quito (AP) — Eight people were killed in a gun attack that happened on Saturday at a birthday celebration at a pub in Ecuador, according to police, as the nation deals with an increasing wave of gang-related violence. It was unclear if the attacker in the province of Santa Elena, which is on the coast, was targeting the host of the event.
The attackers arrived in a cab and two motorcycles, according to the local police. 185 miles (300 km) southwest of Quito, at the bar in the village of Chanduy, they opened fire. A few of the deceased were discovered outdoors the bar.
Five males and three women were among the victims, and according to the police, none of them had a criminal history. Because Santa Elena has three ports, it has turned into one of the most violent areas of Ecuador. Drugs are frequently smuggled through seaports.
In recent years, there has been a notable rise in the number of homicides committed by local gangs, who occasionally collaborate with Mexican cartels. At least 7,600 people were killed in Ecuador in 2023 compared to roughly 4,400 in 2022. In Ecuador, there have been roughly 1,875 killings so far this year.
