We are heartbroken to report that Bellwether’s comrade Aurelia Twitty passed away unexpectedly last Saturday at the age of 52. Aurelia was the epitome of Bellwether. She started as an executive assistant in 2016, was promoted to office manager, and eventually became our first-ever administrative manager.
According to aheadoftheheard.org, Through the team of administrative professionals she oversaw and the projects she worked on, her impact and reach spanned the entire organization. Aurelia was frequently the first person new team members interacted with during their onboarding process.
She was a beloved teammate who was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or offer a kind word. Her strictness and no-nonsense demeanor were tempered with grace and knowledge. Aurelia shaped Bellwether’s approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion by giving seminars and injecting her thoughtful perspective into conversations. In 2017, she was awarded the “Honey Badger” award, presented yearly to Bellwether’s MVP, for her numerous efforts.
Aurelia was unafraid to be herself. She was a lifelong student who was fascinated by other people, their lives, and their perspectives. And she was a hoot – full of brightness, warmth, and laughter, she danced whenever the spirit moved her.
