Andy Rothman Death – Andrew Steven Rothman of New York City and East Hampton, NY died on Monday after a brave battle with cancer. He was 62 years old. He was a TV News Producer, March Madness Enthusiast, and a Springsteen Die-Hard. He worked at Staples High School student radio station and later served as Sports Information Director at the University of Chicago where he received a B.S. in political science with honors. Andy turned his insatiable curiosity and passion for writing and journalism into a 40-year career at CBS News and CNBC.
Andy was a long-suffering Jets and Mets fan and a Knicks season ticket holder for 25 years. He was a ringer on the softball field in Central Park and a decades-long member of the Westside Y, where for many years he swam and played basketball religiously. In recent years he took up spinning, and after a heart ablation in 2007 he challenged himself to running and completed seven half-marathons in one year.
Who Is Andy Rothman?
Andy was born in New York Hospital on January 20, 1961 during JFK’s inauguration. He spent his early childhood on the Upper West Side of Manhattan before moving to Westport, CT where he graduated from Staples High School. Andy spent his childhood and teen years accumulating an encyclopedic wealth of sports knowledge devouring the New York Times sports page while watching TV.
Andy enjoyed traveling, from epic ski vacations in the American West with his pals to work trips celebrating Ferrari’s 60th anniversary in Tuscany. Andy had never been happier than when he was driving his 1968 Mustang convertible along Gerard Drive in Springs or Atlantic Avenue in Amagansett. Michael and Amanda enjoyed hosting family and friends at their home and crashing their neighbors’ parties across the street, where they were married on August 7, 2010.
Andy was a 25-year Jets and Mets season ticket holder and a 25-year Knicks season ticket holder. He was a star on the Central Park softball field and a devout swimmer and basketball player for decades at the Westside Y, where he was a member for decades. He took up spinning in recent years, and after undergoing a cardiac ablation in 2007, he challenged himself to run and finished seven half-marathons in one year.
Andy Rothman Funeral plans
A memorial ceremony will be place on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. in The Sanctuary of All Souls Unitarian Church, 1157 Lexington Avenue. Relatives and friends will celebrate Andy’s life at Toloache restaurant, 166 E 82nd Street, following the funeral service. More parties and basketball viewing may continue at Third Avenue Ale Pub, 16th Avenue and Third Avenue.
