A security guard is said to have been protecting himself when he shot and killed a man who was 28 years old, according to the Phoenix police department. According to the police, the incident took place at 8:30 p.m. close to the intersection of Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street. Police were dispatched to the scene after reports of rounds being fired in the neighborhood. They found a wounded man who was eventually identified as Travonte Hayes, who was 28 years old at the time. Hayes was rushed to the hospital, but he could not recover from his injuries and passed away there.
Authorities discovered that prior to the event, Hayes had been ejected from a nearby establishment for reasons that are yet unknown. It was stated that Hayes came back to the institution brandishing a firearm, made a threatening gesture with it toward a security guard, and then went back inside. Hayes was then shot by the security guard, who, according to the authorities, was acting in self-defense. There were no reports of any further injuries. The investigation is still going on at this time.
