Amber Shoemaker Thompson was born on January 5, 1981, in McCandless Township. Her parents were Kent Shoemaker and Josie (McDonough) Shoemaker. Amber finished high school at Seneca Valley in 1999, and soon after, she joined the U.S. Navy. Amber happily served her country for eight years and finished the Naval Officer’s Training Program. She went to Penn State University after her time in the military and got a degree in computer science.
She worked as an IT Specialist at the Robert J. Dole Veterans Affairs Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Her social media page says that she also worked at NASA, which stands for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Amber loved all kinds of animals, but horses were her favorite. She loved riding and was good at it. Amber made everyone around her very happy.
