The ex-boyfriend of a 19-year-old El Cajon woman found dead in Arizona a month after she went missing has been charged with murder. According to the station, Jon Christopher Clark, 23, made his initial court appearance after being charged with one crime of first-degree murder, one count of improper disposal of a body, and one count of evidence tampering. A $1 million cash-only bond was issued.
According to the state, Sgt. Vince Lewis of the Phoenix Police Department stated that investigators have generated probable cause linking Clark to the death of Kiera Bergman and have suggested that a first-degree murder charge be filed in the case. On the final day anyone saw Bergman alive, Clark allegedly picked her up from work early. The outfit Bergman was wearing when Clark picked her up was still on her body when it was discovered.
To provide the impression that Bergman was still alive, according to the police, Clark sent texts to both his own phone and the phone of her roommate. According to the police, Bergman used her WiFi router inside her flat to send Clark text messages claiming she had left and was giving him access to some money from her bank account.
Clark’s assertions and the stories of other witnesses did not line up, according to court records. Due to unrelated accusations of aggravated identity theft and forgery, Clark was already incarcerated. He was detained around two weeks after Bergman vanished, although at the time, there was no evidence linking him to her case.
In the vicinity of 51st Avenue and Thunderbird Road in Phoenix, Bergman’s apartment was where she was last seen alive on August 4. On September 3, Buckeye police discovered her dead in a barren region close to State Route 85. It wasn’t known how she passed away or how long her body had been there.
Bergman’s parents said that their daughter relocated to Phoenix earlier this year from El Cajon in order to be with Clark. They added that she appeared to have lost her spirit following the relocation and that she changed.
