What happened to Alexis Boland

After authorities in Dunlap responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment in the 12300 block of N. Brentfield Drive at approximately 9:19 a.m. on Friday, Boland was initially sent to the hospital in a severe condition after the shooting. A number of bullet wounds were discovered in Boland when he was located. After the shots were fired, the suspect, who was later identified as Walter J. Artis, 26, ran away from the scene. It was believed that he was armed and dangerous, and the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office had asked for assistance in looking for a black 2010 Nissan Rogue with the plate number DL57433.

According to the police, Artis was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit that began at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday at a petrol station located on Morton Avenue in Morton.  It was discovered that he was carrying a firearm on his person. According to a press release, Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins has suggested that the Illinois State Attorney’s office prosecute the defendant with murder in the first degree.

It is anticipated that a grand jury will hear the evidence in this case. At this time, Artis is being detained at the Peoria County Jail on a bond amounting to $2.5 million. According to the office of the coroner, Boland had previously expressed interest in becoming an organ donor. Following the completion of her final requests, there will be an autopsy performed. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation into the occurrence at this time.
