UNR Shooting Today – On Sunday, April 9th, 2023, numerous law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel are responding to a shooting report in Nevada, Reno. According to the Nevada Police Department, police were dispatched to 1664 N Virginia St, Reno, NV 89557 following reports of an active shooter in the school library. It was unclear at the time this story was written if the shooting had injured or killed anyone. No one had been taken into custody, and the shooter’s identity had not yet been made public at the time this piece was written. While authorities investigate what happened, the public is asked to avoid the area.
UPDATE: On the evening of April 9th, 2023, at approximately 8:40 p.m., there were approximately 20 police cars and SWAT present at the north end of the University of Nevada, Reno campus. According to Joshua Reynolds, the deputy chief of the University of Nevada, officers with the Reno Police Department were called to the campus in response to a “potential threat,” which was later determined to be a “hoax.” Reno Police Department said.
In an email correspondence, Reynolds said “We received information tonight about a potential threat to campus, and out of an abundance of caution, there was a large police presence. “The officers were able to fairly quickly determine that there was no actual threat on campus and this was the result of a hoax.” Reynolds further added the campus is safe.

An inquiry is currently ongoing following a shooting that took place in what appears to be self-defense near UNR late on Wednesday night, October 19th, 2022. A report of shots fired sent officers from the Reno Police Department to the 100 block of Bartlett Street just before 11 p.m., according to Lieutenant Anthony Elges of the Reno Police Department. The responding cops discovered a man who was suffering from gunshot wounds when they got to the scene.
According to Elges, the injured man was carried to the hospital, but he did not survive his injuries and passed away. According to Elges, all of the persons involved are still present at the location of the incident and are cooperative with the inquiry. At this moment, no one has been arrested in connection with the incident because it appears to be an act of self-defense on someone’s part.
