Authorities say that on Sunday, a gunman started fire at an online video game tournament that was being live-streamed from a Florida mall. Several people were killed and many more were taken to the hospital. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office did not know right away how many people had died at the Jacksonville Landing, which has restaurants and shops along the St. Johns River. But a person who was close to the investigation said that the shooting killed four people and that the shooter killed himself. It wasn’t clear whether or not the official counted the suspect as a death.
The official spoke on the basis that they could not be identified because they were not allowed to give out information. Sheriff Mike Williams said that police had not yet found the person who attacked the video football tournament, which featured the game “Madden NFL 19.” The competition was held in a pub that has both a pizza place and a place to play video games. People could go online and watch the games and see who was playing. Williams said that police were looking at online videos that seemed to show the scene right before the shooting started.
A red dot that looks like a laser pointer shows on a player’s chest just before the first of a dozen gunshots goes off. The sheriff’s office used Twitter and Facebook to tell people to stay away and to ask anyone hiding to call 911. “Many people are hiding in places that are locked at The Landing. We want you to stay cool and hide where you are. SWAT is searching inside The Landing in a planned way. We’ll get there. The sheriff’s office said on Twitter, “Please don’t run out.” The sheriff’s office didn’t say anything else, and they also told reporters not to go near the area.
Three blocks around the mall were blocked off by police. The nearby river was watched over by officers and Coast Guard boats. There were a lot of vehicles in the area, but the mall area seemed to be empty except for the police. Police also set up on a bridge that looked out over the river. In the middle of the city’s downtown, the Jacksonville Landing also has concerts and other activities. In 2015, when Donald Trump was first running for president, he held a gathering there.
